I am researching Fannie Daugherty, born 1809 in New Jersey. She married Elisha Wetherholt in 1828 in New Jersey. In 1829 Elisha and Fannie joined the Snufftown (Stockholm) Methodist Church in Sussex County. Their first child, John D. Wetherholt, was born 1828-1830 in Essex County, according to what he told census takers and a Cumberland County Illinois historian. In the 1830 U.S. Federal Census I find an Elisha Wetherholt in Jefferson, Morris County, New Jersey. By 7 October 1831 they have moved to Franklin County, Ohio, where a daughter Sarah was born. Elisha's father John was a Revolutionary War veteran, enlisting in Rockaway, and settling in Saddle River Township, Bergen County. He also listed Morris County as a residence in his pension application. John Wetherholt also moved to Franklin County, Ohio in 1831 or 1832 and is buried in the Smith Cemetery near New Albany according to a DAR field worker. The DAR noted that he is buried with wife Nancy and nearby is an Elisha Wetherholt, died 1837. Fannie moved west to Cumberland County, Illinois with her several children by Elisha Wetherholt in the late 1840's. She moved with Thomas Havens, also of Franklin County, Ohio and the two were later married in Illinois. I know nothing of Fannie's parentage and prior to her joining the Snufftown Methodist Church with her husband I have found no mention of her in New Jersey. I have discovered a number of "Dougherty's" and "Doherty"s" in the areas of New Jersey mentioned above as well as near Canisteer, but I have been unable to connect her. Any hints or clues would be greatly appreciated. John Wetherholt the elder had a colorful and impressive record in the War of Independence and would very much like to broaden my knowledge of this line.
