janice, i am still searching for the father of our john charles dougherty. my gut says that capt. john was his father and young john was a polygamist and became a mormon. all evidence is circumstantial. i hired 2 genealogists and no smoking gun was found so far. i have met up with descendants of young john's sister jemina that married a groves. they all believed that he was the son of william from shoals. i went down there and looked at what they had on william and nothing concrete was found. doug dougherty believes that he was the son of henry that was with joel charles in french lick. i have just met a descendant of mary jane dougherty (daughter of john jr. and nancy bennington) and she thinks his father was samuel and mother rebecca. so here we are with a ton of possibilities and no evidence. are you still working on genealogy at this time.
jeaneen
