Mary Dougherty McCreary

I’m seeking information on the ancestry of Mary Dougherty, who was reportedly born on Jan. 17, 1776, in future Fayette (then Westmoreland) Co. Penn. She was married in 1794 to James McCreary (son of Hugh & Margarete McCreary). McCreary land (from 1789) was in Menallen/Redstone Twp., about a mile SSW from Peter Colley’s (Hugh McCreary’s neighbor to the north) 1796 Tavern still standing at Brier Hill on the National Road (U.S. 40). James & Mary Dougherty McCreary migrated to Lebanon, Warren Co. Ohio.

Persons of particular interest as a possible father of Mary include: Capt. James Dougherty, who raised a company of militia in 1782, following Indian raids (incl. destruction of Hanna’s Town). Possibly the same James Dougherty who helped to purchase land for the courthouse at Uniontown. Some James Dougherty was in Brownsville, Redstone Twp., in 1800, as were younger James Dougherty Jr. & Daniel Dougherty (sons of James Sr.?).

John Dougherty, distiller, a Franklin Twp. taxpayer in 1785. Possibly the John Dougherty in the 1790 census. A Michael Dougherty was also in Franklin Twp. in 1790. A Dennis Dougherty was in Washington Twp. then.

Does anyone know of churches &/or cemeteries in Fayette County associated with the various Dougherty families in Fayette Co.? My McCreary kin then were probably Presbyterian. Thanks.
