Cornelius Dougherty came from Ireland to Va. he was one of the oldest traders with the Cherokee, he built his trading post in the village of Tugaloo from 'Ramsey's Annals of Tennessee".He is also written about in the "Red Carolinians" chapter 14 pag. 268. and the "History of South Carolina under the Royal Government".He was the father of James Dougherty Sr. and g-father of James Dougherty Jr. who married Elizabeth Dean,they had: Sarah, Susan, Cynthia etc.
