Dear Robin,
Did you receive my e-mail?This has been a wonderful week for information regarding the family tree!
As I indicated, I was given a taped recorded interview of my grandmother Mary Louise Cody Dougherty. These tapes were recorded between 1978-1980.Grandma Mary died in September 1980 at the age of 88.There are 2 tapes - one is in good quality, the other is barely audible. In these tapes, she talks about Patrick and Bridget Commerford Dougherty.According to this interview, Patrick worked for his brother Michael Dougherty who owned Dougherty-Brian Storage (she made a comparison to Bekin Storage).Bridget died fairly young (about 35-40 years of age of blood poisoning - stepped on rusty nail) leaving 6 children: Joseph, James, Winnifred, John (my grandfather), Frances (your grandmother) and Mary.John went to live with his Uncle Bill and Aunt Katie (O'Neill) Dougherty. They owned a farm and had no children. He lived with them for 2 - 3 years. She also mentioned Joseph Michael Dougherty, who worked for Union Pacific RR.She referred to his wife as 'Code' - I really couldn't understand the name. She named all of their children. Then she mentioned James Andrew Dougherty, who worked in typewriter repair. He was married to Selma (unknown maiden name), and she named their children as well. She spoke of your grandmother, Frances Dougherty and her husband William Rancipher. She said Bill was a wonderful man; and that he died much too young. She named all their children. She spoke of Mary Dougherty Clark and her son Tom.I believe the tape which is not audible probably contained more information on Mary and Winnifred. My plans are to have this re-recorded by a professional and perhaps they can pull out what is not audlible. This really has been the best 'piece' I have gathered yet!
I also have another cousin working on the line. The information she has gathered matches what I have, but her's included photo's.In this is a photo of your grandmother, Frances, visiting in Denver.
According to my grandfather's obituary in June 1963, Frances Rancipher (Denver) and Mary Clark (Portland, Oregon) are his only surviving siblings.
Would you have any additional information on Winnifred Dougherty and Mary Dougherty Clark?Dates of birth, death, who they married?
How about Patrick Dougherty and Julia Gleeson?
Look forward to hearing from you!
Warm Regards,
Mona Ross
