According to my conversations with the Mayflower Society historian in California, the Doty-Doten book is not able to be referenced for genealogy purposes -- at least for the purpose of admission to the Mayflower Society. However, the information contained in the series of books titled "Mayflower Families Through 5 Generations" (referred to as the Mayflower Silver Books because they have silver book bindings)is accepted as evidence because only data that has been properly documented is included. I could be wrong, but I think the Mayflower Society is involved in reviewing the documentation included in those books.
The Silver Book that includes Henry has a qualifying note that says the marriage of Henry to Sally and the birth dates of the children have to be verified. So I am being requested to provide that documentation. The historian I'm working with requested clarification from their main office in Plymouth on this issue. The answer back was that I did indeed have to get the additional documentation.
John, please let me know if you want a copy of the marriage record for Reuben that indicates his parents are Henry and Sally.I've got it now and can send you a pdf of it.Also, are you a member of the Mayflower Society, and if not, have you applied?
