PLUMA JANE (DOTY) THORP/HESTER (DOTY) WHITEHEAD/HARVEY/MAILA/WILLIAM/RICHARD

I am trying to find the name and lineage of the father of Pluma Jane Doty and her mother's last name and lineage. I would also like to find the place and date of death of Pluma and where she's buried.

Pluma Jane Doty, b. abt 1842 in Michigan, (DoD and place unknown) m. Lyman Thorp, b. 6 Jan 1827, New York d. 16 May 1886, Tecumseh, Lenawee, Mich. Date of marriage unknown. Both Lyman (son of Ebenezer Thorp and Lucinda Gray) and Pluma (or Jane - she went by both) were deaf mutes. They had the following children: Horace William, Julietta "Ettie" and Inez May.

In the 1850 US census Pluma (misspelled Plema), age 7, is living in Franklin, Lenawee, Michigan with her siblings: Harvey age 19; Hester age 15; Maila age 13; William age 10; Richard age 4; and presumably her mother, Salinda, age 43.

In the 1860 US census Jane is listed as 18 years of age and living in Clinton, Lenawee, Michigan with her mother Zelinda age 53, William age 20 and Richard age 14. This was recorded on July 20th.

Pluma is also listed in the 1860 US census as living in an asylum for the deaf, dumb and blind in Flint, Genesee, Michigan. This was recorded on July 2nd. So it may have been more like a school than an asylum. A William Doty, age 15, is listed 8 rows down from Pluma, but I don't think it's her brother. The other censuses noted that she was deaf and dumb, but William was not so noted.

In the 1880 census, Pluma, age 37, is living in Tecumseh, Lenawee, Michigan with Lyman age 53, Horace age 14, Julietta age 10, and Inez May age 2. Her mother-in-law, Lucinda (Gray) Thorp, age 81, is also living with them. So Pluma and Lyman were probably married between 1861 and 1865.

Pluma's brother Harvey and sister Hester were both born in New York. She and her other siblings were born in Michigan (I assume Lenawee County, but not positive). Her children were born in Tecumseh, Lenawee, Michigan. Salinda/Zelinda was listed as being born in NY (1850), Vermont (1860) and by Pluma in 1870 as Rhode Island. Hester married Arthur W. Whitehead and in the 1870 census is living in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.

If anyone can help me fill out this tree, I would greatly appreciate it. I have found nothing on Salinda since I don't know a maiden name or place of birth, but I am hoping someone is connected and can help.

Thanks!
