John F. Doty Sr., 90, of Winter Haven, FL, died April 8, 2008, at his home. Mr. Doty, was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Kyles Ford, he was a son of the late Dr. Roy A. and Anne A. Doty. He was the widower of Anne George Doty, his wife of 58 years who died February 29, 1996. John was preceded in death by a twin daughter, Frances Doty Hart; a brother, Roy Doty; and a sister, Ruth Doty Wheeler. A former resident of Rogersville, Hawkins Co TN, where he was the owner of City Drugs, he moved to Florida in 1954. He was the retired founder of Doty Farm and Garden Supply in Winter Haven. His youngest son, Bill, now operates the business. Mr. Doty was a community leader. As a graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, NC, he valued education and community involvement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven, where he served as an elder. He held longtime memberships and served in a variety of positions in Kiwanis, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, and the American Legion in Winter Haven. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his children and their spouses: J. Fred Seabolt-Doty of Austin, TX, John F. 'Jeff' Doty Jr. of Dover, FL, Barbara A. Doty of Thompson Ridge, NY, Helen D. Doty of Winter Haven and Kingsport, TN, William R. 'Bill' and Cathy Doty of Winter Haven, FL, and Susan (Doty) and Tom Griffis of Winter Haven; a brother, Dr. Robert D. Doty of Kingsport, TN; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grand- children; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a number of dear friends, including, Alpha Howe, Margaret Jones, Johnny Thompson, and Betty Joiner. A memorial service for John F. Doty Sr. will be held at 2:15 Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2008, at Doty Chapel in Greene County, TN, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Charles 'Chuck' Echols will officiate. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven on April 11, 2008.
