Samuel DOTY, newspaper article 1912, Chicago, IL

I'm researching my relative's husband, Edward PHILLIPS (Married to Anna Fitzgerald), who was shot & killed by a Samuel DOTY, a private watchman who entered the business of Hollis & Church, Chicago, IL. on Christmas Day, 1912. Edward said, "Merry Christmas," and Samuel didn't like his looks so he shot him (he died a day later.) Ed & Anna had only been married 3 years. Samuel's widow was Martha A. DOTY. It's just such a SAD story, and I'm SO curious about the outcome of the trial, if there was one. They said in the paper he was 'insane'. Unsure whether he was put in prison or in an asylum. Anyway! unusual story, but my curiosity wants to know what happened to Samuel and/or his family. If anyone knows anything about this case, please write me. Thanks.
