mary jane doty, beecher city illinois
I have a question about my great grandmother from Beecher City, Illinois (Effingham County), that I hope one of you may be able to answer.
She was born Florence (aka Flora) Williams (b. 6-19-1882).
Her mother was Mary Jane Doty (b. 1861 in Fayette, IL, d. 1930 in Kellyville, OK) and her father was A.F. Williams (b. 1860, d. 1949).They were married on February 2, 1881 at Beecher City, in Effingham, IL.One of the witnesses to the marriage was Wendel Doty.
Mary and A. Frank had these other children: Goldie M. (b. 4-1-1885), Moses (b. 9-1-1888), Rosa A. (b. 2-23-1892), James H. (b. 2-17-1895), Lovie (b. 7-16-1897), Beatrice (b. 1-9-1901) and Webster (b. 7-24-190?).
The family moved from Illinois to Arkansas and then to Oklahoma by covered wagon. They ended up in Kellyville, Oklahoma.
Through GenForum, I've been told my line goes to Ed Doty of the Mayflower (Edward Doty, Samuel Doty, Daniel Doty, David Doty, Thomas Doty, Moses Doty, Sarah Louiisa (doty?) m. Moses Doty (son of Joseph Picket Doty and Catherine Parr?), Mary Jane Doty, Florence Williams, Viola Violet Wilson, Jerry Joe Thomas, ME...)
What I'd like to know is:
* the relation of Wendel to Mary Jane.I believe he is her younger brother.
* if there is a possibility that Mary Jane was partially Native American. My grandfather said that she was very dark.I have photos of her, too.Family history says she may be part Cherokee.
* Who are Mary Jane's parents?I've been told that it is Sara Louisa Doty and Moses Doty. However, it is REALLY confusing because the Sara Louisa (daughter of Mary Jane Cavanee and Moses Doty) also had a brother named Joseph Picket (who died when he was 2 years old.).So, something's screwy beacuse i also have Mary Jane Doty's father being Moses Doty, son of Joseph Picket Doty and Catherine Ann Parr. Does anyone have solid information regarding this?
Thanks for any help one can offer.
I hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Thomas
