Nancy,
I doubt if there's any connection. I know of no Ellison's that Ellison Fowler Dotson may have been named for. He was my g grandfather. His father, William Henry, is something of a mystery to us. The only things we have been able to find for him are a marriage record, and also he was in the 1880 Jackson Co., West Virginia census. He must have died between 1883 when his last child was born and 1892 when his wife remarried. We can find nothing on his death.

There are some James Dotson's in MD census records and there is a James Dotson on the 1850 Monroe Co., Ohio census. I'm waiting for census data from Monroe Co. It seems his father died about 1845 and my guess is that the James on the 1850 Monroe Co. census may have been his grandfather. I also "think" his mother may have been Catherine Barr, daughter of Benjamin Barr. I also "think" William had a brother James and a sister Rebecca. Lots and lots of speculation and I can't seem to find anything concrete.
