Hello Morris,
I am sorry but I can't tell you the parents of David Dotson. I did look at the 1820 census records for Ashe Co., North Carolina. There is a Reuben and James Dodson living in Ashe. I think these two are the children of Charles Dodson b. 1750 (son of Lambeth Jr. Dodson).
I did find information that explained Ashe Co., NC was formed from Wilkes Co.,NC in 1799. Bounded by Alleghany, and Watauga Co., North Carolina. I guess there is a possiblity that you might find your records in one of these counties.
Vol.II; pg. 1304 of the Dodson/Dotson Family by Lucas goes as follows for Ashe Co., North Carolina.
Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions:
Oct. Court 1822. Jesse Isaacs and William Dodson appointed musicians in Capt. McBride's District.
May Court 1826. Ordered by the Court that a jury be sworn in to review and lay off the road running from the state road to the state line, the view to commence at Dotson's meadow and continue to the mouth of Sharp's Creek.
May Court 1829. John Wilson vs. Holden Davis. William Dodson, Jacob Reese, George Wilson, James Estep, Elizabeth Wilson solemnly called and failed; judgment for 40 lbs. against each.
