GA Dotson Cemetery
On 4/16/03 my husband & I were able to locate a "lost" Dotson cemetery near Savannah. It is in an almost inaccessible area & very overgrown. However, you can tell it was once a large cemetery by the scattering of tombstones that are still there (many have been vandalized or destroyed). Some of the names we were able to read on the remaining tombstones were:Cecelia Zipperar, w of George Zipperar d. 1831, age 31;Thos. Wolfe d. 9/11/1864 age 63 y 21 d;Lydia Keith 3/15/1818 18 yrs;Eliz. Watson d. 9/26/1860 dau of S.W. Smith;John T. Dotson 1/6/1876-1/20/1939; Geo. Cooper d. 2/7/1878; Sampson Dotson d. 6/13/1913; Susan Sealinah Dotson 6/30/1843-6/16/1908; Alice Lubec dau of S & S Dotson 7/12/1880-8/16/1909.This cemetery is in bad condition & most frightening of all it had red tapes on some of the trees that makes us feel it is slated for some sort of development, and may be lost to us forever. The city of Savannah, the County of Chatham, and the GA Historical Society were all unable to tell me anything about this cemetery. If you are interested in visiting it, e-mail me & I will give you directions.
