Dotsons......Calvert Co., MD to Ohio, 1830's
On the 1800 census in Calvert Co., MD are Benjamin Dotson and Ellenor Dotson. From 1810 through 1830 are listed various James' and John's. Sometime in the 1830's some of these Calvert Co. Dotson's migrated to Belmont and Monroe counties in Ohio. My line starts with a William Dotson, born in MD, who married Catherine Lee about 1838 in Ohio. William and Catherine had three children, Rebecca (1839), James (about 1842), and William Henry (about 1844). There is a William Dodson listed on the 1840 Belmont Co. census (age 20-30) with wife (20-30) and daughter (under 5). I'm assuming this is William, Catherine, and daughter Rebecca.
On the 1850 census, Belmont Co., Somerset Twp., a Catherine Dotson is listed living in the Benjamin Barr household. Also listed are Rebecca, James, and William. So it seems William Dotson had died. My line is William Henry (about 1844) who married Ellen Gray in 1869 in Belmont Co.
Not all that I've stated above is proven. I'd like to be able to verify what's not proven, and find out who William's parents were.
In addition, I believe Benjamin on the 1800 census must have died before 1810 as he's not listed on the 1810 census. I believe Benjamin's wife's name was Mary. Also, Ellenor Dotson on the 1800 census, I believe her maiden name was Howard.
Does anyone know anything of these Dotson's from Calvert Co.? Any information would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
