At least some of the Dossetts in Illinois came from Tennessee about 1830. They settled in Hardin Co. just across the Ohio River from TN.

One of these is Jonathan T. Dossett born 1858 who might be a possibility. He married Caroline "Fanny" Lowry and she died in 1880 at Cave-in-Rock, Hardin Co. He could have moved up to Knox at that time and remarried. He had two daughters, Jinny and Daisy b. 1879 and 1880. His parents are Elbert Dossett and Nancy J. Barnard. Unfortunatly, I don't have any more info on Jonathan T., but I do on his ancestors if you think this might be the guy.
