I believe Matilda Doss was my Grandfather's, Baxter Lavander (Van)Doss, sister. Mom calls her Aunt Mattie. Their parents were James Marcus Doss, born 17FEB1855, d.15AUG1940, m. 25DEC1885 to Louvenia Ann Taylor, b.17MAY1857, d.14MAY1927. My mother referred to the aunts as Aunt Kate and Aunt Tave (for Octavia). Their mother was Amanda (Mandy) Maynard Harvel Doss English and I believe their father was John Doss (not sure on his first name, found no records). I found James & Matilda living with a married sister and her husband in the 1880 Federal census in Calhoun County, MS. James Doss and his mother, Amanda Doss English, and Octavia (Aunt Tave) English are buried in the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Calhoun County, MS. Not sure what her Doss husband is buried.
