Try Baylor's Alumni Association to see if they have a member list or contact the Human Resources Office for a teachers name of that period.
Also find a source online of historical newspapers in Waco, McLean County TX to see if he is mentioned in a sport or academic news story.
I have Ancestry and I find no results for a Thurman Henry Doss or Thurman Doss that can be matched to a the military or Texas or Baylor University.
The Texas Birth Index 1903 to 1997 is at Ancestry and I find no Thurman Doss as father to any other children. There is a Thurman Doss buried in a Veteran's Cemetery in IL and SSDI has his last address ad IL with SSA card issued IL. He was a SGT in WWII.
If you mother-in-law's mother was a student at Baylor at the time, order her transcripts to find out what classes she had and try to find the teachers names to know one way or the other if he was one.
I also use Rootsweb/Ancestry (they share the same board just different headers and links to access them)
