Ty and Betty, Thanks for your answers to my questions. I missed or overlooked the fact that this couple named a child Ambrose! We have not one but two Ambrose Dosses in that area at that time. The one more likely to have been the father of this Sarah is the Ambrose who lived and apparently died in Cumberland Co. His wife's name was Sarah Thurman. Ambrose was a half-brother of the Sarah Doss I mentioned earlier. We know little about his family, and next to nothing about his daughters. Do the Cumberland Co. Ky. early marriage records exist? My memory is that they are burned -- is that right? So we have at least two possibilities: Sarah (b. ca. 1796), daughter of James Doss and Ann Thurman, and Sarah, her half-niece, daughter of Ambrose Doss and Sarah Thurman. James Doss Sr. married for a second time very late in life, and his second family was more than a generation younger than his first family. So these Sarah's were approximately the same age. First one to find the census records, report back! Libbie, stuck in very cold Maine
