You are asking all of the right questions, unfortunately I have not done any original research. Most of my Peterman information comes from oral history (from different sources that seem to agree) and from a pamphlet style bok published by W. C. Stone in the 70s that itself probably relies on oral history. I guesstimate that George Peterman and Sarah Doss married circa 1824. She was the final wife. George's first wife, Sarah Springer, must have died in Georgia. The only child of this union about which I know is Jacob who came to Tennessee with his father in 1806. Sarah Jones, the second wife, was the ancestress of W. C. Stone. Sarah Lincolon was the third wife and a distant cousin to President Abraham Lincoln. The fourth wife, Sarah Doss, may very well be the Sarah in Cumberland County KY that you lose track of. At this time, Cumberland County KY and Overton County TN bordered each other. The Peterman Bend of Obey River is located just to the West of Celina, TN if memory serves. Everyone seems to agree that my ancestor William Riley Peterman was child number 22, but whether or not there were a total of 26 children seems to be less certain. W. C. Stone suggested that George Peterman and Sarah Doss only had four children, not six, he only knew the names of two - William Riley and Ambrose. According to tradition, George Peterman was around 63 when he fought with Jackson in 1813 (making a birth year of 1750) and died when he was 110. Also, Cousin Bale Fancher Stone (a real person - I've checked my Stone records) told W. C. Stone or one of his informants that George was 90 when his last child was born so I gues the last child was born circa 1840.
