This Sarah Doss has me stumped! I've gone thru our database a couple of times and I don't find many candidates to be this Sarah.

I hope someone who has researched this family will answer a couple of questions for us. First, how is it known that she was Sarah Doss? Is there a marriage record? Second, was she living in 1850? Is she in the census? Is there any record of her having children prior to this marriage? That is, could she be a Doss widow?

William Doss, the Rev. War pensioner, lived in Overton & Fentress Co. Tenn. and also earlier in Wayne Co. Ky. He had a daughter Sarah, but she was 27 in 1857, when she was still Sarah Doss. Rules her out.

Another Cumberland Co. then Wayne Co. Doss family did have a daughter Sarah we have not accounted for. She was born about 1795 and was unmarried in 1817 and living with her mother, Ann Doss, in Cumberland Co. KY. Her mother and sister are found later in Wayne Co. Ky., but we never see Sally again. Could she be yours? Her sisters married older men (William Acre and Abraham Mays) who each already had grown families. Look for the names Thurman, Bell, Shoat/Choat around them. William the pensioner named above could be a connecting link between that Sally and a marriage and move to Overton Co.

In addition, there were Doss families who moved from Bedford Co Va to Pulaski Co. Ky. about that time (Joel and his brother Azariah.)

What does the 1850 census tell you about this Peterman family? Any clues there? Where did George Peterman live before moving to Overton Co.?

Libbie
