My Great grandparents are Walter and Isabella DORWARD. They immigrated to Toronto, Canada in about 1873 or earlier with their son Walter, age 12 and (family lore says) infant daughter Margaret who died on ship. The fact that there is an 11 year gap between these children suggests that there may have been more children who did not immigrate. Walter and Isabella went on to have seven other children in Toronto: David Preston b. Aug 1873 in Toronto,Isabella (my grandmother), John, Mary, Jennie, Paul and Joseph. As far as I can tell from the 1841 Angus census where he shows up at age 14, my Walter was born on Oct 12 1827 and lived in Rescobie where he lived with another family as a labourer. I wonder if he was from Arbroath? Isabella shows up at age 1, born in Brechin on July 14 1840, daughter of John DORWARD and Jessie DORWARD (maiden name?)John was born in Forfarshire about 1811, and Jessie was born about 1806 in Forfarshire. John & Jessie also had one other child, James, born in Brechin in 1836 More family lore has it that Walter and Isabella were first cousins sharing the same surname. So, do you think there is a connection? Karen Notify Administrator about this message?
