William Dortch(1719) was from Albemarle Parish, Surry Co, Va. His mom was sister to my ancestor George Barefoot(1692). Her name was Hollera Barefoot(bef 1686). She married John Dortch(born c. 1680) about 1716, (son of Walter Dortch and Joanne Whitfield) and had bought land on Three Creeks in Isle of Wight Co (now Southampton, 12 miles from where I live) in 1725. They conveyed this property to their son John Jr/Ruth Ivey and an Edward Harris in 1739/40 and moved to Mecklenburg Co, Va., and then to Edgecombe Co, NC where son William met and married Janie Anne Hilliard, d/o William Hilliard and Ann Newsome (d/o John Newsome /Sarah Crawford of Surry Co, Va.) William Dortch signed the petition to form Nash Co from Edgecombe. Traveling south from Va into NC, there is a town called Dortches north of Rocky Mount, in Nash Co. Jethro.
