sorry, joe, i don't agree.check the 1850 census and you will see that william plummer dorris was the father of james.joseph a dorris was the father of an alexander.in any casewilliam plummer and joseph a dorris were brothers and the son of joseph s and sarah tucker dorris and the grandsons of isaac dorris the patriot (circa 1750-1824) and susannah barker.james m. dorris is buried in bethlehem baptist church in district 10 robertson county.this church was a dorris church, founded in the 1820's by joseph s. dorris' brother, william dorris.william plummer's headstone is really quite unique (he is a few stones down from james), having carved cooper tools on the stone.william plummer like many early dorrises specialized in making chairs and barrels -- the latter to support the local whiskey industry.
