Looking for info on Erasmus Dorrell b. abt 1815 New Jersey. Erasmus also went by the name "Ross". Erasmus shows up in the 1850 New Castle County, Delaware Census. wife Charlotte (b. abt 1826 - Maryland) son: Joseph b. abt 1840 (Delaware) son : Isaac b. abt 1846 (Delaware) daughter: Sarah b abt 1851 Delaware On may 26, 1860, Erasmus Ross Dorrell, was found floating in a creek near his home in Odessa. DE. Charlotte and her children remained there, as they are listed in the 1860 census - The family moved to Maryland for a period of time. Joseph ended up moving back to Delaware and then to NJ Isaac moved to NJ Sarah stayed in MD and married James Henry Lewis - she is my GG Grandmother. Listed in both 1850 and 1860 Census and living with the Dorrell family is Josiah Seward b. MD / I believe this to be the father of Charlotte Dorrell. - and thus the reason why the family moved to Maryland shortly after Erasmus death in 1860. I also found this notation: There is a note dated: 1814, Mar 22 Dorrell, Erasmus of Lower Alloways Creek Township, Salem Co. Int. Inventory $404.75; made by Dabymore Harris, Adna Bradway. Sworn to by Elisha Stretch, Adm’r June 14 1814 File 3139 Q / this obviously is a relative and is tying back to Salem, NJ. Notify Administrator about this message?
