Hi Bodo!

Thanks for your reply. My family is from the Lujbljana area in the one-time Austrian Crownlands but I strongly suspect that when the Turks overran Yugoslavia area many Germans came down to fill in, including probably,Dormishes. I have hear our name spelled Dormis, Durmis, Dormische and several other ways.
Family History says that one cousin started a beer brewery in the 1800s and recently I heard from a Dornis boy who says the Dormishes were, in fact, Dornis originally. He also said he saw a brewery in the Bavarian Alps with the family name listed as founders.

I have been looking for a link to the old country for almost a year and have not found a trace so unless my family fell off a spaceship <grin> there had to be a name alteration somewhere along the line.

Ales Dormis' wife was a Strumbel. A cousin tells me we are also kin to Furlans. If I could find some immigrantion pappers I might be able to find out for sure where the family originated!
