Hello Craig and welcome to the forum.
Yes I was aware of the Dornings in Canada from other web pages.
It is interesting to hear that your great grandfather came from Liverpool. From my research I have found that the Dornings seem to have spread from Liverpool to Wigan, Culcheth, Pillkington, Bolton, Kersley and on to Manchester. A distance of about 25 miles in an East South East direction, all in about 150 years or so. I came from Bolton and my father was also John. There was a tradition at one time to call the first male or one male after the father. I can go back to my third and forth generation Grandfathers who were all Johns.
I would be very interested to hear just where your Grandparents came from as I intend to revisit Bolton and hopfully Culcheth come the warmer weather, where I intend to review the census returns and hopefully obtain the birth and marrage certificates of John Dorning b1824/25 and Hannah b 1826/7. They can be purchased by post from the Southport (Just north of Liverpool)Records Office. Please keep in touch, I am sure that Jan and Jolly will also be very interested. Visit this site:
or just ask Yahoo for Public Records Office UK
Best wishes
