Dorman Family Genealogy Forum

I am researching the Dorman name as it relates to my McDorman family. As Tim Wilkinson pointed out, often the "Mc" has been dropped to shorten the surname to simply Dorman. There have been at least three families where I know this has happened, Tim's being one of them. I have done a little research on the Maryland Dorman families because I feel there is a definite connection to the McDorman family. I am in the preliminary stages of research, but through the help of another researcher, found a Somerset County, Maryland Will that shows a McDorman woman, unmarried, leaving her brother, John Dorman, a portion of her estate. This is just one instance where some family members adopted the "Mc" and others didn't. But this is just an explanation as to why I am interested in the Dorman family. Your question was about Sarah and Thomas Purnell, and as I recollect, it wasn't Sarah that married Thomas Purnell, was it? I thought it was Elizabeth Dorman. The microfiche I read at the FHC center shows Elizabeth as being the daughter of John Dorman and Sarah. If you haven't checked out the Maryland GenWeb, you might find a lot more information there. I know that the actual will of Thomas is shown online there. He did have a daughter named Sarah; that much I am sure of.
