A native of Delaware County, New York, he was born August 27, 1837, and is descended from an old American family, early settlers of the Empire State. His father, Anthony Dorman, was likewise born in Delaware County and married Miss Charlotte Bursack, a lady of German descent. Their only child, Jay M. Dorman, was left an orphan at a tender age and was reared by his aunt until fourteen years of age. With her he removed to Louisiana, where he learned the carpenter and joiner trade. In 1861 he went to California by way of the isthmus route, sailing on the steamer North Star, which arrived in San Francisco in July.
The above, taken from a sketch of Jay Myer Dorman his son, is all I know of Anthony Dorman.
