Hi Michael,
I just read your post. Hope you are still there. I am interested in how you went back so far with your Dores. (I have seen your grandfather's O'Doghair sign in Newcastle West as my Dore family is from the area, slightly south east of Newcastle West.)My grandfather, John Dore b. 1855, was the son of James Dore and Catherine McAuliffe in Rathpalatine near Feohanagh in Mahoonagh (Castlemahon) parish. He emigrated to the states in 1891. His sister Elizabeth married Daniel Leahy in the 1890s and their children's children may still live in the Dore family house visited by my aunt in California in 1957. Great grandfather James Dore is in Griffiths, but can't find a Dore in Rathpalatine in the Tithe Applotments. Parish records don't go back far enough to James's birth. How can I trace the family farther back? I would love to locate the Leahy family to see if there is a Dore family bible or any records as Elizabeth Dore Leahy was the last of the immediate family remaining in Ireland. Any suggestions?
