Hello again, fellow Dores!
The information I have found on the possible origins of the Dore name is:

"(O)Dore. Dore is Ó Doghair and also de Hóir (of Norman origin) in Co. Limerick, but elsewhere may be from the French Doré. See also Durr and Doorish.

(O) Doorish. Ó Dubhruis, earlier Ó Dubhrosa (dubh, blavk – ros, wood). The sept originated in Fermanagh-Monaghan border, whence it spread to Co. Tyrone and in the other direction to north Longford. The supposed conection with Co. Limerick arose from O’Dures, the plural of O’Dure, an early anglicised form of Ó Doghair, now Dore.

(O) Durr, Durry. Ó Doraidh. A Leitrim and Roscommon name. Dore and Dorran occasionally used as variants.

My "purely Irish" Dore ancetors supposedly would say that the French/Norman variations of Dore, were "copied" from the originals (whatever, of course, the origin of the name truly would turn out to be!)

Thanx again ...

Brian
