Hi Maggie, I posted also to the McCown forum--here is what I posted: Home: Surnames: McCown Family Genealogy Forum McCown-Doom, Bardstown, Nelson Co., KY Posted by: Judy Hayden Date: February 02, 2000 at 11:42:08 Does anyone know the parentage of Dr. Harrison Wood McCown (usually called H W McCown) who married Sarah Elizabeth or Elizabeth Sarah (called Elizabeth) Doom, who was daughter of Col. Benjamin Doom and Cassandra Phillips, in Bardstown, Nelson Co. KY? One source , the book "Historic Nelson County", by Sarah B. Smith, 1971 states that Dr. Harrison Wood McCown was the son of James McCown, who evidently was a builder in Bardstown, as it is said James built a magnificent residence (in early 1800's)for Ben Doom, and he bequeathed this stately Georgian home to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Dr. McCown. The home still stands and is on the Historic Walking Tour of Bardstown, KY, located at 212 East Stephen Foster Ave. It is said that only the very best of materials were used in the building of this home. I know that Dr. Harrison Wood McCown and wife Elizabeth had a daughter Lizzie who married Joseph Putman Wood. Any info on this family is appreciated!
