Dear Paul, Gerald and bjewc:

I read with great interest your messages about your connections (or attempts to establish the connections) with Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa. My grandmother Anna Donovan of Massachusetts told us for years that we were related to Rossa. My great-great-grandfather was Denis Donovan (b. September 13, 1851 in Dunmanway, County Cork). He married Anne Hurley and had several children including my great grandfather John Denis Donovan (b. circa 1883). I have been trying to establish the link to Rossa for quite some time. (Unfortunately, the answer is not contained in "Rossa's Recollections" or "Irish Rebels in English Prisons".) If anyone has information, I would greatly appreciate hearing it.

BTW, I recently spent some time reviewing 19th century parish records for County Cork at the National Library in Dublin. I have notes on quite a few Donovans which I am happy to share.
