I'm Connell Hill O'Donovan of Santa Cruz, California (born 1961 in Utah), son of Claude Hill O'Donovan (b. Creston CA), son of Ambrose Joseph O'Donovan (b. Creston), son of John O'Donovan (b. Santa Clara CA), son of Patrick Donovan of Tintine, Co. Kilkenny and Creston, California, son of William Donovan, son of William Beg Donovan, son of William Donovan, son of William O'Donovan, son of Conn (or Cornelius) O'Donovan, son of Edmond O'Donovan of Gaulstown, Co. Kilkenny, son of Donal the O'Donovan, Lord of Clann Cathal, Prince of Carbery (built Castle Donovan in Co. Cork ca. 1560).

I have heard the name Jeremiah Donovan in reference to Co. Kilkenny, but I don't know where he fits in. All Donovans in Kilkenny are descendants from Edmond O'Donovan (above). Edmond was born in Co. Cork but, not being the eldest son of Donal the O'Donovan, he tried his fortunes elsewhere, moving to Co. Kilkenny about 1600.

The great antiquarian, John O'Donovan, was also from Co. Kilkenny and he wrote several volumes which include some genealogical information on the Donovan family in Co. Kilkenny - that is how I was able to connect my family to William Beg Donovan (above) and thence extend my family line all the way back to the original Donovan (d. 980). I wish I could remember which volume of John's I got the genealogical line from, but I don't.

I hope this helps!

Connell
