I have Jeremiah Donovan b. 1813 married Mary Saurin November 05, 1833, Notre Dame de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Children born Ste. Catherine de Portneuf, Quebec: Michael,December 10, 1834 , Christoper October 11, 1836 and Thomas March 01, 1845.
Jeremiah's parents were Michael Donovan b. 1787 and Margaret Egan.
His brother John b. 1807 married Mary O'Sullivan February 27, 1827, St.Ambroise de la Jeune Lorette, Quebec (few miles north of Quebec City) Now Mary's parents John O'Sullivan and Mary Landers were in Newfoundland before heading to Quebec City in 1812, my 3rd gg was born in NFLD in 1811.
Jeremiah's brother Denis b. 1801 married Bridget O'Donovan circa 1826 in Quebec, and they had the following children:
Patrick, Denis, James, Jeremiah,Edmund, Matthew and William. These children were all born in Ste. Catherine de Portneuf, Quebec.

The Irish were very strong in their naming patterns, and many families were connected by this. It was typical of them to name as follows:
1st son after paternal grandfather, 1st daughter after paternal grandmother, 2nd son after maternal grandfather, 2nd daughter after maternal grandmother. 3rd son after paternal brother etc. etc . and they followed this pattern till then ran out of sibblings only then did they name them after themselves.

Let me know what you think about your Jeremiah and mine..

Janice
