DONALY/DONNALLY of West Virginia

I am currently trying to find anyone with information regarding the DONALLY or DONNALLY surname in West Virginia. My 3rd great grandparents, John ATKESON (5 Sep 1768-12 Oct 1823) and Mary DONALLY (26 Mar 1778-9 Jan 1854), lived in the Kanawha valley of West Virginia and Gallia County, Ohio. Mary had brothers who lived near her. I have family accounts which describe their lives. But, there are conflicts in these records which try to connect Mary with the family of Col. Andrew DONNALLY of Fort Donnally fame. The Colonel fought many area battles to settle the European colonists into Virginia. Does anyone have any knowledge of this spelling of the surname and where I could look further?
