Charles;
Yes, I do know of it,coner of Lobster cove and gunnison rd, coming from York ion Lobster cove rd, take a rt on Gunnison, drive down about 500 ft? then into the woods about 50 to 100 feet, two old stones, I have pictures. It may have been one of my Messages. I visited the place in 1988.There are two stones. ONe is my GG grandfather, Henry Walter Donnell b. 1857 and drowned at Cape Neddick Me in April 1886, age 29, when hefell over board of his lobster boat, got tangled up in the lines and drowned, his body was found threedays latter by a navy diver from Portsmouth ship yard.the other stone I believe was a Bragdon, not sure, maybe Mary.I got it written down somewhere, she was a relative to the Donnells of the homestead, where they both are buried.Henry Walter was raised in the Donnell home still on Lobster cove rd.Arcrossthe street from the two stones, back in 1988, lived Russell Donnell, he pointed out the stones, hiden in the underbrush, in the woods.He was a Lobsterman, and Drowned when he fell off his boat, on Christmas eve 1988 or 89? he was 47.I spoke to his mother Annette (died in the 1990's) she knew of the stones, but not how they where related.My Gg grandfather was her father-in-laws brother.I have been trying to research Henry Walters Wife, Mary E(Wilber), she herself may have been part Indian, Her, she was not liked by the Donnells in York, and the ties where strained.. about 1 year or soafter Henry W Drowned, she left her 2 yr old daughter Winnie, and infant son Henry Walter jr, ( born 7 months after Henry w drowning) in the care of the Calvin Winn family. She was to return, believed to have either gotten married and moved to Mass. or Went to Mass to work.who knows what really happened.My donnell had a close tie before and after these incidents, the Winns where farmers, but also worked in the woods as lumber men, My Grandfather knew of all this, and his grandfather worked his lobster pots in season, then for the winss the rest of the time.His wife, Mary E (Etta?) Wilber,(webber?) (b.1860 or 64?) I believed was raised by the Winns.Maybe to much info for you.but my family for years knew there history was from the Donnells in York, But Donnells in York, did not know of Henry W, the drowning, or those living with the Winns, Yet Annie Donnell (Henry Walters Mother, use to visit Henry Jr, and my Grandfather up until her death in 1922, my grandfather thought she was an Aunt, hewas little, but it was his g grandmother, she lived in the house on the site of the stones, the same house on lobster cove rd. but not until 1988 when I and my brother talked toRussell, and found our GGgranfathers name on the "Lost stone" was it confirmed.
