To: Marsha Mullin, Curator the Hermitage RE: RACHEL DONELSON DICKSON While studying film of the Orange county NC Will Book & original record of the will of Robert Donalson of Orange county North Carolina A-106, dated 20 March 1770, who is my direct ancestor, and son of Andrew Donalson, I noticed a child listed as Rachel Dickson. My experience tells me that Dickson was the name of Rachels husband, and that Rachel was born Rachel Donelson. I believe there were two Rachel Donelsons, 1) the famous daughter of Colonel John Donelson of Pittsylvania county, and 2) the daughter of Robert Donelson of Orange County NC. They were both about the same age. One possibility is that when Rachel was sent to North Carolina, perhaps a second identity was created to whitewash Rachel's reputation, if a scandel ever arose. I did run across a Dickson/Dixon family that intermarried with the Light family of Halifax county which was divided into Pittsylvania and Halifax. These Dixons were from Norfolk virginia where they kept a tavern prior to 1760. Steve Light
