Bill,
I'm glad to know the information was useful to you. I don't have any record of William's marriage or children, but I have a lot more about Daniel (or Simp as he was called), his other children, and his brothers and sisters and parents. You may already have that, but if not, I'll send it to you. I would like to have William's family information to add to my records if you want to share that with me.
People have been very good to help me, so it's good to be able to pass something along myself. The lady who helped me the most, and who has done over 20 years research on this branch of the Dollarhide family, is Frances Dollarhide Smith of Huntsville, Alabama. Bill Dollarhide of Salt Lake (then in Washington) told me about her and gave me her address. When I wrote to her, she answered, "Molly, I "know" you. I grew up with your parents in Foreman." She then sent me a huge package of copies of her research, and the information I gave you is based on her work.
There is a Dollarhide book called "Descendants of Asahel Dollarhide" by the late Carl Dollarhide, Jr. of Idabel, OK. You may be familar with it. His wife was good enough to make a copy of the book for me for a nominal fee. It's extensive documented coverage of the man who was uncle to my gr-gr-grandfather, Judge James Samples Dollarhide of Sevier and Little River Counties, AR.
You mentioned a trip to Arkansas. If you go to Foreman there is a Dollarhide Cemetery there on land donated by the Judge, who is buried there with his second wife, Martha King Dollarhide and several of their children. Daniel Simpson was a child of this marriage. The Judge's first wife was Martha's older sister, Mary King, who died after having 9 children, one of whom was my great-grandmother. Martha was the mother of 13 children. And recently I've heard that the Judge, who was a large landowner, had at least one son, Thomas Victor, by one of his slaves. The biography of James Samples Dollarhide has been covered in print through newspaper articles and Goodspeed. We even have a picture of the Judge and Martha with a written biography from the Arkansas Gazette.
This has become too long. It's hard to know where to quit in genealogy, isn't it?
Again, I'm glad to know you've found your family. That's always good news.
Regards,
Molly Dixon
