Doiron's history in the Athol, Mass. area
Hello everybody!I am currently researching my family history for a history class, and I was just wondering if anyone has any ties or information on the Doiron family in the Central Massachusetts area, specifically Athol. My grandfather, Reane Doiron moved to Athol in 1932 with his family. He was 6 years old at the time.
I was looking even further back and I discovered a book that my father has on the history of towns in the Quabbin area (written by J.R. Greene I believe, a local to the area). The book contains a picture of the original charter of the town of Athol, and one of the names on the charter was Doiron.According to Wikipedia (the best source I could find), Athol was settled by five families, one of which I believe to be the Doiron family. The founding of Athol in 1735 roughly alines with the time period in which many Acadians were migrating out of Canada and into America.
I don't know if this is true, or if it is, if it's new information to anyone, but I found it very interesting and was wondering if anyone knew anything more about this.Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or add any information if you have any. Thanks!
