Greetings, Durand with a D exists as a Quebec surname. It's included in the Tanguay dictionary in Vol.4 which you can find online at the Bibliotheque et Arcives nationales of Quebec. http://www4.bnquebec.ca/numtextes/accueil_tanguay.htm This source stops in the late 1700s, early 1800s but it might serve as a clue. I suggest you post at the Quebec Rootsweb Locality sites, or check if there is a surname site there for it. If you need help with French sources, let me know.
