I have hit a dead end with my g-g-grandfather, Peter Durant. Since I can't find any Durants (or other trace of the family) in the area prior to him, I'm thinking that he may be a DOIRON, and his family was among those who fled Acadia. So here is what I do know:
Peter Durant, married Betsy Kerkie (aka Felicite Cartier, b 22 Oct 1820 d 31 1878) This couple and their children were listed in the 1860 US Census--NY and Betsy's family is well documented in Quebec area (her father Jean Baptiste Cartier AKA John Kerkie died in Massena NY in 1865)
Does anyone out there have information about the DOIRON/DURANT connection in the border country of the St. Lawrence valley and environs?
