Jerry, my updated information on our Dohn family has them fromWeidenthal, Germany
not Neidenthal. The William and Charles Dohn whom we thought were cousins at first, we are now finding them to be brothers. I found both of them listed under the parents with the names of Joannis Matthiae Dohn andMagdalena Wienand (not Wehaunt)by their baptismal and birthdates. William was born March 15, 1861 and it is listed as Guilelmus, which is to mean William. They also had a son Wilhelmus that was born in Sept. 15, 1853 and died in his first few days. I don't know if this family is the same or not. It looks as if they rename other children after the dead, but with a different spelling of it. They also had a Matthius who was born on Feb. 13, 1851 and died a few years later in 1853, and then a Matthaus that was born on Oct. 22, 1855, but I think the Matthius might be a female name. This can be confusing, but Joannis and Magdalena were married in 1838 and I only have records starting to show births from 1849 with a daughter Barbara. I then found marriage records for sons Frederica and Joannes an I think that maybe Frederica might have been born before Barbara. I will have to find church records before 1849 to find more baptismal information. . How did you get the information you have. Do you have any records such as death certificates? Have you been to the Family History Center? I'm waiting to hear from the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese on marriage record information on Charles and William to see exactly who they listed as their parents. You see on their death certificates they were listed as having the father for Charles as Martin and the father on William's as John the mothers were both listed as Magdalena's, but one was it looked like Gratz for Charles and Wienand (Wehaunt) for William. I also found that John's father was Martin, so their might have been some confusion when Charles daughter filled out the death certificate. I'm hoping the marriage records clears this up for me. If I do find the other church records with more on a William I will let you know. If you don't hear from me in a few months (with the holidays coming up and the length of time it takes to receive a film from the Family History Center) please e-mail me.
Thanks,
Fran Dohn
