Hello Ralph,
Thank you for your post. I do have William's death cert. from NJ: father John Doherty, mother Margaret (no surname).
I went to IFHF database and using birth index (William), marriage index (John) and Griffiths (John), reduced the number of counties to 3 (I think!!):Antrim, Armagh and Mayo. It still leaves too many names to pay for record viewing without an exact birth year (no agreement between census, d.cert., childrens b. records) but I am alot farther along than I was before.
