Dodd Origin

hello,

Curious if anyone knows the true origin of the Dodd name?

I've been doing a little research on the internet lately and have come back with many different answers ranging from English, Scottish and even Welsh. Some of he information I have found seems to be repeated throughout though. For instance, the Dodd name appears to be one of the older names on record. Dodd appears to be lnked to Dodds, Dod, Dudda and Dodda. It also has a possible germanic root meaning round lumpish man..haha.

I reside in Canada My ancestors settled in St. Thomas Ontario. I've been told that our tree extends to the Torbay, Devon area in England but thats awfully close to Wales.

That all being said does anyone really know where the Dodd originates from. Are we English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish?
