Hi, Pamela,
I'm afraid that I'm not descended from Daniel and Margaret Doe.I'm descended from Margaret's brother, Jonathan Dockum.Jonathan and Margaret's parents were John Dockum and his wife Jane. There seems to be no record of her maiden name, but she was the widow of John Bickford when she married John Dockum. There were also two other brothers and another sister in this family.Dorothy Dockum married Joshua Keniston on 22 Apr 1725 in Greenland, NH.The oldest son (as stated in the early New Hampshire Province deeds) was John, Jr.I have always seen Benjamin listed next and Jonathan listed last, so I assume that my Jonathan was the youngest of the three brothers.Since they married later than their brothers, I assume that Margaret and Dorothy were younger than the boys.I have some sources that list other people as siblings, but I believe that these were actually children of John, Jr., not John, Sr., so I don't show them on John and Jane's family group sheet.
Jane had at least two children by her first husband. She had two daughters:Agnes and Mary Bickford.I did a little research on the Bickford family when I was trying to find out Jane's maiden name. One book on Bickford family history says that Jane and John Bickford also had a son, Benjamin, but I don't believe this could be right. On 29Sep 1691 John Dockum "wch marryed ye widow and Relict of John Bickford, deceased" sold to Roger Rose "one tract of land lying in ye little bay nere welchmans cove containing fourty acres by estimation, it being a gift of Richard Caters unto ye said John Bickford, as by ye Record of the Towns Book".This deed was acknowledged before a Justice of the Peace on 4 Jan 1703/4.If Jane and John Bickford had had a son, I believe that this land would have been passed on to him.I think that the author might have mistakenly assumed that Benjamin Dockum was Benjamin Bickford because Benjamin Dockum posted the sureties for the administration of the estate of Samuel Larey, Agnes Bickford's husband.Mary was supposedly crippled and died unmarried.
The "History of the Town of Durham, New Hampshire" only lists the three sons: Josiah, James and John. However, I did find a section in the book "The Descendants of Nicholas Doe", pg. 31, that lists four sons:"I Jeremiah, bapt. July 15, 1725; m. Abiah Brown. II Josiah, bapt. Dec 6, 1727; m. Hannah Willey. III James, bapt. Feb. 5, 1728/9; m.______. IV John, b. June 8, 1729; m. Mary Wiggin.".
