DOCHERTY'S IN NEW ZEALAND

I'm having trouble tracing the family origins before coming to New Zealand hoping someone can help.
So far I know that James and Matilda Docherty came to New Zealand about 1855. They had my gg grandfather Samuel in 1863 Nelson. He married Elizabeth Ward in 1885 in Auckland. Their children were Cyril Charles, Albert Vincent, Edith Gertrude, Millicent and Mavis.

If this sounds familier to anyone I could really use the help.
