The father of my John Docherty born 1886 Greenock was
William Docherty ship riviter born,1843 Greenock. And his father was also William Dougherty born c 1795 Ireland.
William Dougherty married Helen Carigan in Lochwinnoch in 1825 and they had six or seven children born in Greenock.
Between 1831 and 1843 there was only one child born which is recorded in the 1851 census. This leads me to believe that several other children, being in their teens, possibly went back to Ireland or went to the India Campaigns of 1845 1870's. There are a number of Docherty's recorded dead in those campaigns. David, Williams and Edwards.
As of yet I do not recognise any of the names you mention.
