My great grandfather was Joseph Glascock Dobyns, of Virginia. He moved to New Orleans and in the move changed the spelling to Dobbins. Family story, unverified, was that he moved and changed the spelling because of a scandal where an aunt or cousin emptied her gun into her husband.
