I have also studied the 1790 census and many other North Carolina records in search of the parents of your husband's and my ancestor Henry Dobson. From some McWhorter records I find that Henry married Jane (Jean) McWhorter of Iredell Cty, NC. They named their first child Hugh McWhorter Dobson, b. 1792 in NC. Henry and family moved to Williamson Cty, TN around 1802. Henry died there in 1823. Hugh McWhorter Dobson and family moved on to Greene Co Indiana where his wife died and he married when he was 77 a 23 year old Martha Carmichael Cullison. They were the parents of my grandfather Frank Dobson in 1877. My father's name is Vernon Dobson and we also were both born in Greene Co Indiana.
Sharpe's map of the 4th Creek congregation made in 1773 in Iredell Co NC shows Benjamin Dobson living next to Hugh McWhorter and John McWhorter, whom the McWhorter records show as the father of Jane, who married Henry. I think Benjamin is Henry's father. In his will in 1810, Benjamin left all to his three daughters Nancy, Elizabeth and Isabel, that his two sons John and Joseph were to execute his estate and for the rest of his children he left 5 shillings a piece. This would have been the final inheritance of Henry who was on his own in Tennesee. As was customary, he may have got his portion when he became of age and started out in life. About to die Benjamin wanted to provide for his three daughters. Henry seems to be the only reasonable parent I can find for Henry, but obviously I need much more to make the connection.
