Please help...I'm beginning to think I'm the only one looking for this family!
I have a William Dobson born about 8/1770, died 4/3/1841, buried Mt Hope Cemetery, Athens, Greene Cty, NY. He appeared on census records in Greene Cty from 1800 to 1840 with about 8 children total. His spouse, which I have no information on apparently died after him but she is not buried with him. The Greene County Website mentions him a few times and also mentions a "Captain" Dobson in the right timeframe.
I believe one son was William Wilbur Dobson born 4/1801 in Greene Cty, married Elizabeth Dickinson in 1823, moved to Town of Constantia, Oswego Cty, NY where he raised his family and died 12/18/1880. There is a child James Dobson buried in Mt. Hope near William Dobson above who died in 9/1835 son of William W. and Elizabeth. This William is definitely my husband's ggggrandfather.
I suspect another son was Hiram Dobson who was born in Greene County in 1814. He was married to Ellen Dickinson sister of above Elizabeth. He also moved to the Town of Constantia, Oswego Cty and Town of Vienna, Oneida Cty which is right down the road, and raised his family, eventually moving to Brockport, Monroe Cty, NY. I am in contact with another researcher on this family.
I have found what I think is another son, James Dobson who was born in Greene Cty between 1810 and 1820. He was on the same census page in 1840 as William W. and had 4 children at the time. In Reed Cemetery, Town of Coxsackie, Greene Cty there is a child Asantia buried, daughter of James and Fanny Dobson. I find in 1850 in the Town of Cortlandt, Westchester Cty, NY a James Dobson age 39, wife Fanny and 5 children, Adaline 14, Charles 12, Edelbert 10, James 8, George 3. Another researcher is looking for information on the parents of a Charles Dobson born 4/23/1837 Coxsackie, Greene Cty, NY, parents names possibly Hiram Dobson and Fannie Holbrook and it seems likely this may be the family. Cedar Hill Cemetery in Montrose, Westchester Cty has James Dobson 5/18/1811-11/17/1850, Fannie his wife 9/6/1815-11/22/1870, son Frank died 12/9/1847 at about 2 1/2 years old.
I know this is long and I appreciate everyone reading through it. Do any of you Dobson researchers see any connections here? I'm really desperate for something concrete. Thanks very much.
